Travel vaccinations for Basildon residents
Basildon is South Essex's biggest town and one of our largest Travel-clinic catchments. Most Basildon travellers we see are families heading to Spain, Greece, Turkey or Egypt for holidays (Hep A boosters, Tetanus reminders, Tdap for Egypt-bound under-5s), professionals travelling for business across Africa and Asia (Yellow Fever, Rabies, Japanese Encephalitis), and Hajj or Umrah pilgrims needing Meningitis ACWY ahead of their visa.
Hassengate Pharmacy is about 8 miles south-east of Basildon, around 20 minutes by car via the A13 and A1014. Free parking on-site, late opening seven days a week — useful for shift workers and after-school appointments.
Hajj and Umrah travel — Meningitis ACWY and timing
Saudi Arabia requires Meningitis ACWY vaccination (Nimenrix or Menveo) for Hajj and Umrah visa applications. The certificate must be at least 10 days old and less than 5 years old at the date of arrival. We administer Meningitis ACWY same-day with the certificate issued on the day. Additional Hajj-recommended vaccines we routinely advise on: seasonal influenza, Hep A, Tetanus boosters, and rabies if planning excursions outside the holy cities. See TravelHealthPro Saudi Arabia advice for the latest requirements.
Common travel vaccines available
Stock covers Yellow Fever (Stamaril) — we're the closest NaTHNaC-designated centre for Basildon — Hepatitis A (Avaxim/Havrix), Hepatitis B (Engerix B/Twinrix), Typhoid (Typhim Vi), Rabies (Rabipur), Japanese Encephalitis (Ixiaro), Meningitis ACWY (Nimenrix/Menveo), Cholera oral (Dukoral), Dengue (Qdenga), Chikungunya (Ixchiq), TBE, and routine boosters. All on-site, no waiting list.
Malaria tablets — prescribed in the same appointment
Our pharmacist is a GPhC-registered Independent Prescriber, which means Malarone, Doxycycline or Mefloquine are prescribed and dispensed in the same visit. No GP letter needed. Regimen choice depends on destination, dosing tolerance and any contraindications.
NHS vs private — when each makes sense
If you have 4+ weeks until travel and the vaccines you need (TDP combined, Hep A, Typhoid for some destinations) are NHS-eligible, your GP is the cheapest option — but availability varies. Private clinics are faster (same-day appointments routine here) and stock private-only jabs like Yellow Fever. For mixed cases — Yellow Fever plus Tetanus booster — we can administer everything in one appointment to save you a separate GP trip.
